With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life and legacy of John Allen Hardy Jr., who transitioned peacefully at Heritage Hall in Blackstone, Virginia.
Born to the late Margaret Hurt Fields and John Hardy, John accepted Christ at an early age, a foundation that guided him through life with grace, humility, and strength. A proud graduate of Nottoway High School, John was known as the star of the basketball court, a title he held with skill and confidence.
He went on to attend Kittrell Community College in North Carolina, graduating in 1969. That same year, John answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army and courageously serving in the Vietnam War. His discipline, precision, and sense of duty earned him respect both in and out of uniform.
Following his honorable service, John built a career in the governmental sector; first in New York City, and later continuing his service at Fort Pickett, where he made lasting contributions and connections.
John, affectionately also known as "Duck" was a man of many passions. A true guru of numbers and time, he loved analyzing the world around him with quiet wisdom and wit. He also had a well-known sweet tooth, with a fondness for butterscotch candy and strawberry cake. In the kitchen, he was known to whip up comfort meals like neckbones, cabbage, and rice was some of his favorites. A loyal sports fan, John rarely missed a game when his beloved New York Giants or New York Knicks were playing.
He was preceded in death by his only son, John Karim Wadir Hardy; his sister, Angie Hardy; his brother, Tommy Joe Hardy; and his nephew, Jerry Hardy.
John leaves behind a legacy rich in love, laughter, and wisdom.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, LaShonna Hardy (Avery) of Atlanta, Georgia; and his four precious granddaughters: Ashiya Bailey, Ala Felder, Aivory Felder, and Adorn Felder, all of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his loving niece Freda Hardy of Blackstone, VA, nephew Chance Hardy of Blackstone, VA, cousin James (Gwenie) Hardy of Blackstone, VA, one uncle Floyd (Barbara) Hardy of New York, two aunts; Naomi Hardy of Long Island, NY, Shirley Hardy of Blackstone, VA and a host of family and friends who will carry his memory forward with gratitude.
His earthly journey may be complete, but the impact of his love and legacy will echo for generations to come.
Rest easy, Daddy. You were truly one of one
