On Sunday March 23, 2025, John Harty peacefully passed away at the age of 73.
John was born on October 4, 1951, in Vienna, Virginia. After living in Germany and the eastern plains of Colorado John moved to Summit County in the early 60's. John spent most of his adult life in Summit County until moving to Eckert, Colorado in 2023, where he lived out his retirement and final days.
John attended Summit High School and graduated in 1973. It was in high school where he met the love of his life Paula Carman. John and Paula married in May of 1985, and together raised two daughters, Jessica and Brandy in Silverthorne.
John had a passion for horseback riding, hunting, leatherwork, shooting, reloading, and enjoyed cooking. He also enjoyed volunteering at the local food banks.
His career consisted of providing services at Eddie Bears, True Value, and Murdochs. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge and Blue Valley Sportsman Club. He taught TIPS classes throughout the County and was well known for being a certified instructor of the N.R.A and provided many gun safety lessons within the community.
John is survived by his brother Bill Harty; wife Kathy; daughter and son-in-law Brandy and Jake Swenson; grandkids Brody and Penny Swenson; brother and sister in-law Bill and Linda Wellington; a niece; several nephews and many great nephews; along with a long list of many great friends.
John is preceded in death by his wife Paula and Daughter Jessica.
A service/celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John's name to Hope West Hospice in Delta Co. Po Box 24 Delta Co 81416.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
