I just learned about this unfortunate news.
I couldn't thank him enough for mentoring me while I was new at the company and in this country.
John was always there to offer a wise word when things were blurry and a joke about making things easier. I never met him in person, but I will always be grateful to him.
All my best wishes to his family at this sad moment.

Dear Lisa, Charlie, Todd, Children, Grandchildren, and Extended Family,
So sorry to hear the sad news that John had passed away. High on any list of things for which our family will remain forever grateful is the privilege of having known various members of the Howell family, both as wonderful friends and fellow church members, both at First Baptist and Southside congregations in Decatur, now for more than fifty years. We still deeply miss John´s parents Pistol and Jan, grandparents JC and Inez, along with numerous beloved aunts and uncles, all with whom John has now surely been reunited in heaven. Please know of our sympathy, prayers, and continued best wishes in the days ahead.
Mark, Tommy, and Ann (Mrs. Joe D.) Ray Decatur, Alabama

I am sorry to see this news. I was a fraternity brother of John's at Birmingham-Southern. Although I had not seen him since those days, I have fond memories of John. He was definitely a "colorful character" with a great sense of humor. My condolences to his entire family.
