John "Yanni" Vagelis Kanellos
January 20, 1980 – June 27, 2025
A brother to one, but a friend to all. With heavy heart and profound sadness, we announce the passing of John "Yanni" Kanellos, who left this world far too soon on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the age of 45.
Born January 20, 1980, in Columbus, Ohio where he lived until moving to New Orleans, Louisiana with his family in 1991. In his preteen years, John became a member of the Hellenic Dance group at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. John is a graduate of Brother Martin High School and the University of New Orleans and a former bartender at the Metropolitan Nightclub in New Orleans where he developed and maintained close, life-long friendships. John was most recently employed in sales. He enjoyed all things family, as well as reading, video games, movies, was a collector of comic books, loved to cook and was a lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes and New Orleans Saints fan.
John joins in eternal rest his father, Evagelos Kanellos. He is lovingly survived by his mother, Polymnia Kanellos; his brother and best friend, George Kanellos as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends near and far all of whom will miss his presence and remember his kind soul.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and funeral service at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Allen Toussaint Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Visitation will be held at the Cathedral from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, New Orleans, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
