John Jason Mengwasser, age 52, of Linn, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at SSM St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
John was born on May 26, 1973, in Jefferson City, a son to Norbert Mengwasser and the late Carolyn Ann (Haslag) Mengwasser. His father survives in Rich Fountain.
He was a 1991 graduate of Fatima High School.
John was a lifelong turkey farmer with his father.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain.
John enjoyed fishing and gardening. His favorite holiday was the Fourth of July celebration, always making sure to have a big fireworks show, spending time with his family doing hayrides, bonfires and teaching the little ones to fish. He was a jack of all trades that could fix anything he put his mind to.
In addition to his father, John is survived by four children, Russell (Cami) Mengwasser of the Tacoma, WA.; Emily Mengwasser of Fenton, Andrew Mengwasser of Columbia; and Madison Mengwasser of Linn; the mother of his children, Theresa Damery of Linn; two granddaughters, Violet and Iris Mengwasser; seven siblings, Audrey (Stephen) Shillington of Santa Cruz, CA., Jeanne (Mark) Hoduski of Bonner Springs, KS., Douglas Mengwasser of Memphis, TN., Christopher (Leah) Mengwasser of Bradenton, FL., Charlotte (Rex) Pennington of Holland, MI., Julia (Robert) Hargus of Westphalia, and Nancy (Scott) Wilson of Beaufort, SC.; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his mother, John was preceded in death by an infant sister, Jane Ann Mengwasser.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Tony Valdes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the John Mengwasser Children's Education Fund.
