John Slovonick, of North Royalton, Ohio, died peacefully, July 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. John was a devoted husband of 66 years to his loving wife, Helen Slovonick (Thompson) deceased, and proud father of Deborah Ritson (Bruce, deceased), Sharon Branco (John, deceased), and Terri Mieyal, deceased, (Carl).
John was hard-working and dedicated. He spent over 25 years working as a Local 18 Operating Engineer, where he was known for his hard work and dedication to his craft. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his friends.
Though John may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man of may qualities such as integrity, kindness, generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
John was born in Hickory Hill, PA, in 1926 to Michael and Anna Fijalkevich, both deceased. John was also the loving brother of Paul Valley (Marion) and Ann Larsen (Sonny) all of who proceeded him in death.
John was a devoted and loving grandfather to Eric Ritson, Stacy Ritson, deceased, Gina Branco, Joseph Branco, Julie Mieyal, and Ryan Mieyal (Marlene), who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. John took great pride in being a great-grandfather to Johnny Kraus, Avery Kraus, Jaxon Branco, Colton Branco, Wesley Mieyal, Parker Mieyal, and Mason Mieyal.
John proudly served in the Marine Corps during WWII, defending the freedoms of citizens across this Country. In his 80's, as an active and proud member of VFW Post 3345 in Strongsville, Ohio, John, was an instrumental figure in constructing the VFW Memorial.
John enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, gardening, and fixing things that most would deem unsalvageable. Fixing any and everything in his garage was one of his greatest joys.
Visiting Hours will be Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 1-4 pm at Jardine Funeral Home in Strongsville, Ohio. Burial Services will be THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2025 at 10:45AM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, in Rittman, Ohio. Please meet at the cemetery.
