Johnny Joyner (Big John), 71 of Gaston, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, peacefully at his home. Johnny was born on April 9, 1954, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Lucille Joyner.

Johnny was a loving husband, daddy, and granddaddy (Da Da). He was an avid musician, fisherman, and craftsman.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marie, of the home, his daughter, Dr. Tammy Ramsey of Greensboro, his granddaughter, Jaidyn Ramsey of Greensboro, his brother, Keith Joyner of Gaston, his sister-in-law Fay (Sam) Phillips of Henderson, and a special cousin, Gary Harris of Roanoke Rapids.

Hockaday Funeral and Cremation is handling the arrangements. Services will be held at Doors of Praise and Worship in Gaston on Sunday, August 3, 2025, family visitation at 2 PM followed by a celebration of life at 3 PM officiated by Pastor Russell Collins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Johnny's memory to Doors of Praise and Worship, P.O. Box 775, Gaston, NC 27832.

The family offers special thanks to Chris Martin, Audrey Ash, and the family of Doors of Praise and Worship for all the love and support shown for John during his long illness.
