In Loving Memory of Johnny "Chicken" Wilson

Sunrise: September 19, 1960 - Sunset: July 4, 2025

Our beloved dad, Johnny "Chicken" Wilson, passed away peacefully at 7:04 AM on July 4th, Independence Day.

Though we knew this day would come, nothing can truly prepare you for the moment when someone you love steps into eternity. And yet, there is something deeply symbolic about the timing. On 7/04, at 7:04 AM, Johnny found his ultimate freedom-released from pain, from suffering, and from the burdens of this life. Independence Day now holds an even deeper meaning for our family.

A coal miner by trade, Johnny lived a life marked by strength, grit, and sacrifice. It's fitting that he passed during what many in the coalfields known as "miners' vacation"-a time meant for rest. His final rest came on a day and at an hour that seemed divinely chosen, perfectly placed in the story God was writing.

Johnny was a proud fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and we find comfort in the little details that now feel so meaningful. His team won the Super Bowl in 1974-just like the 7/04 timing of his passing. A number once tied to a championship now reminds us of a life well lived and a legacy that will never be forgotten.

More than anything, Johnny loved his family. He especially adored his grandchildren and took great pride in being known as a true family man. His presence, laughter, and steady support will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Bernice Wilson; his son, Sammy Wilson; his daughter, Nicole Turner, and son-in-law, Richard Turner.

He is also survived by his four cherished grandchildren: Brayden Wilson, Landon Turner, Lakyn Wilson, and Audrey Turner.

Johnny's life was also shared with his sisters: Teresa Anderson, Kathy Farmer, Jerhoda Elmore, and Rita Christmas; and his brothers: Jackie Wilson, Jeff Wilson, and Jerry Wayne Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Atlas O'Dell Wilson and Shirley Wilson, and by one brother, Jimmy Dean Wilson.

Johnny also leaves behind a friend who was like a brother, Roy Griffith, with whom he shared countless memories, laughter, and an unbreakable bond.
