Jose Monzon Obituary

Born in 1938 in Havana, Cuba, he came to the United States in the early 1960's. He worked as a supervisor at Teledyne where he met the love of his life, Gladys Trujillo and they married in 1969. He also worked at Merck & Co in Rahway, NJ before retiring in 2000.
Jose loved to travel, dance and listen to music. He had a great sense of humor, was great at fixing things, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Lovingly called Papa by his grandchildren, he was very present in their lives. He made every effort to attend events and gatherings, from dance recitals/competitions, school plays, and bowling/karate tournaments to pool and birthday parties. He enjoyed taking his family on beach vacations. Our most memorable and cherished vacation will always be when we celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary together in Punta Cana.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jose and Saturnina Monzon, wife of 54 years, Gladys Monzon, sister Loly Gomez, brothers-in law Tirso Morales and Benito Gomez, niece Mercedes Rangel.
Jose is loved and survived by his loving daughter Annie Prohammer (Mike), devoted son Joseph Monzon (Marilyn), grandchildren Emily and Macie Prohammer and Antonio, Julia and Joseph Monzon. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Zilia Morales, nephews Gerardo Gomez (Elena) and Adrian Morales, grand-nieces Emily Morales, Diandra Politis (Adam), and Natalie Rangel (Matt), grand-nephews Evan Morales, Christopher Rangel, and Gerry Gomez, great grand-niece Isla Politis and great grand-nephew Jack Politis. He will be deeply missed, but his devotion and love for his family will always be remembered.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home located at 275 West Milton Avenue, Rahway, NJ. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish located at 232 Central Avenue, Rahway, NJ. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery and Mausoleum, located at 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ.
