Jose Salazar Obituary

Jose Edward Salazar, 45, of Wells, Nevada, passed away on Friday August 1, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to complicaitons from a congenital disorder, Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). He was born on March 6, 1980 in Elko, NV, to Jose Salazar and Larretta Hildreth. Jose lived a vibrant and colorful life that touched the hearts of many and leaving a lasting impression. Jose was also known as Braisha Foxx and was a proud Native American gay man whose radiant spirit shone brightly in his performances as a beloved drag queen in San Antonio, TX and most recently in Elko, NV. On stage, he captivated audiences with his charisma, creativity and unapologetic authenticity leaving a lasting impression on the communitites he entertained. His passion for performance was matched in his gowns, shoes, makeup and jewelry that he wore so proudly in his shows. Braisha's warmth and kindness made him a cherished friend and an inspiration to those who knew him. Jose graduated from Wells High School in 1999 and went on to live in Las Vegas and San Antonio before he made his way back home in November 2020. His infectious energy and zest for life brought joy to his family and friends. He is survived by his father Jose Salazar, sisters Aurora (Jesus) Aboite and Paula (Jose) Garcia of Wells, NV, his nieces Kendra Salazar, Jesenia (Austin) Barger, Berenice Aboite (Thomas Smiley), Kayla Salazar (Jack Arguello), Esperanza Garcia, Evelia Garcia (Angel Badillo), Angelica Garcia, and Gabriela Garcia. His great nephews Kaden Figueroa, Quincy Barger and Kasius Arguello. His great nieces Maliyah, Amiyah and Monica Barger and Hayden Smiley. Jose is preceed in death by his Mother, Larretta R.A. Hildreth, Grandmother Nevada P Penoli, Great Grandmother Ruth J Ortiz, Great Uncle Edward J Lowe and niece Adriana Garcia. Jose/Braisha's legacy is one of courage, self-expression and love. His vibrant personality and unwavering commitment to living authentically will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Braisha will be held on Saturday August 23, 2025 in Wells, NV at the Wells Band Colony Gym beginning at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow after the celebration to continue sharing memories of our beloved Jose Edward Salazar. Jose/Braisha's light will forever shine in the hearts of those he touched and may his memory be a forever blessing.
