Joseph Floyd Byers, 81, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2025, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Mr. Byers was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on November 28, 1943, a son of the late Vonley Byers and Martha Buchanan Byers Neighbors.
Joseph led a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community. He was a proud graduate of Carson Newman University and went on to serve in his professional career with the Department of Labor. Joseph's commitment to service extended far beyond his professional life. A longtime member and Sunday school teacher at Fairview Baptist Church, he shared his faith and wisdom with his church family.
In addition to his church involvement, Joseph played an active role in enriching the lives of seniors in his community. He served in many capacities with the Spartanburg Senior Center and was instrumental in the development of Mason Manor Independent Living, efforts that reflected his compassion and vision for supporting others.
Joseph found great joy in woodworking and yard work.
Above all else, Joseph cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 60 years, Maggie Ruth Byers; sons, David Byers and wife, Dawn, and Daniel Byers, and wife, Gretchen; grandchildren, Kristen Byers Brothers, Kaylin Byers, Cove Byers, and Harbor Byers; and great-granddaughter, Lily Brothers. His love and pride for them was evident, and he was overcome with happiness to meet his new great-granddaughter, Lily.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

To the family of Joe: what a huge loss to his family, friends, and community. I am Joe´s cousin, a nephew of Aunt Martha (Ola Lytle´s son). As a young teen and entrepreneur, Joe erected a large cage in his back yard and began to raise parakeets and similar birds to sell to local retail pet shops. He understood business and money and retail money management from a young age and that understanding guided him in his studies at college and his career at the Dept. Of Labor.

He has left a great impression on a number of us. Thank you, Joe

Dear Ruth, Daniel and David,
When we were very young, Joe spent time with my parents and me. So I have very sweet memories of Joe.
I am glad we reconnected a few months ago and we relived those good times.
Ruth, I know it´s hard to lose a person who has been by your side for 60 years. But it´s comforting to know he is in heaven and is healthy again.
Love to you
