JOSEPH L. DUNTON, SR., known as "Jo boy," was born to the late Pearlie and Charlie Dunton, Sr. He passed away on May 6, 2025, at the Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.
He graduated from the Northampton High School and met and married Edith Sunkins. To this union, seven children were born. He moved to Philadelphia Penn and worked for Bryn Mawr College, Haveford College, and part time for over 30 years at Sears and Roebucks until he retired. He loved sports, games, and listening to music. The Philadelphia Eagles was his team.
Dad moved back home though his health started to fail. He kept the faith. He enjoyed being with family. He kept the faith.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: Cheryl D. Warren, Tara Braddy (Willie), S.C., Linda White (Ronnie), Joseph Dunton, Jr. (Carmen), Alisa Foeman (Anthony), Michael Dunton (Melanie), Richmond, VA.; Lana Scurry (Charlie), Orlando, FL; sister, Eula Mae Weeks; brother, Milton Dunton, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, William R. Sunkins (Louise); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Patrice Dunton; sisters, Ella, Ethel, Pearl, Mary, Bernice, and Nancy Gumbs; and brothers, Charlie Jr., Alfred, and John Carter.
We will always remember the love he shared. A special thank you to Lois Mathews (caregiver), and Shore Memorial staff doctors and nurses, a longtime friend, Margaretta Conley, and children, Archie and Janet Bailey; and close buddies, Willie Smith and Craig Whitney of Philadelphia, PA.
