Joseph Oliver, 91, of Pennsville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, he proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, was a well respected businessman and finished his career working at the Pennsville Memorial High School. And while an obituary often turns into a list of achievements and life accomplishments - Joe would want anyone to know life is so much more than a list. Joe loved Jesus, the Phillies and a winning hand at poker. He was found sitting under the umbrella on the beaches of Ocean City, MD and Atlantic City, NJ could have been mistaken as his second home. He was quick witted, had a heart of gold and was an active member at his church.
He was the guy who made a waitress smile with his "pap jokes", the one who made 500 pb&j's for the churches after school program on Fridays, the guy who would hide funny notes for his grandkids to find after a visit, or lend an ear on a hard day. He never missed a birthday call, a dance recital or an opportunity to sneak a sugary treat.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his children Kathy (Kevin), Ronda (Richard), Ronald Jr. and Scott (Roe); his grandchildren, Savannah (Joe), Jeffrey (Courtney), Danielle (Matthew), Allison (Katy), Ronnie III, Dylan, Drew, Carly and Scotty Jr.; and his great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Lanie, Georgia, Gaitlin, Christopher, Marissa, Myles, Sianna and Bryce. Preceded in death by his son Joseph; He was a steady, loving presence in their lives, always offering wisdom and kindness.
A private service will be held by the family to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, volunteer at a homeless shelter, cut your elderly neighbors grass, do anything that projects good into the world and if you are feeling frisky go throw a $10 into the slot machine and see where it takes you. www.adamsfuneralhome.org
