Joseph Carl (Flash) Payne, 91, of Knottsville passed away on March 31, 2024. He was born on March 13, 1933 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Harles and Lena Bell Payne. He spent 12 years in the United State Army and retired from Green River Steel. Carl was a certified welder, enjoyed gardening, he could fix anything and a big UK fan.
Along with his parents he was proceeded in death by his wife Ruth Shore, brothers Kenneth and Roy, grandsons Charles and Joshua Locke.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 12 years, children Connie (Floyd) Morgan, Sherrill (Bob)McKain, Glenn (Ruth) Payne, step children Dennis, Tim (Glenda), Brian Morris, Angie (Alvin) Benjamin, Theresa (Steve) Bickett, Siblings Coy (Mona), Linda (Gene) Howard, Mary Hodgkins and sister-in-law Irene Payne. He has 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 9:00 a.m., at St. William Catholic Church in Philpot, KY with burial following at Silver Creek Cemetery in Sellersburg, IN. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, with prayers at 6:00 p.m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky or the St. Williams Building Fund.
