Joyce A. Hedgepeth Burt, age 83, of Gallman, Mississippi, passed away at Copiah Living Center in Crystal Springs on June 30, 2025.
She was born on March 22, 1942, in Georgetown, Mississippi, to Wilson and Louise Hedgepeth, where she resided for 21 years. Joyce then married Robert W. Burt, and together they lived in Crystal Springs, where they raised their daughter, Sandra. In later years, Joyce and Robert moved to Gallman to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. She was a member of Gallman Baptist Church and worked as a seamstress for over 27 years, including many years at Bernstein's in Crystal Springs. Joyce will be remembered for her gift of turning strangers into friends with her encouraging words, her love and joy for her family, and her steadfast faith in the Lord.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Sandra K. Burt Thaxton (Clint) of Gallman, granddaughter Ashley Thaxton Chisholm (R.D.) of Crystal Springs, grandson William J. Thaxton (Victoria) of Gallman; siblings, Harold Hedgepeth (Linda) and Carolyn Dell, both of Crystal Springs, five nieces and two nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Wilson Hedgepeth, her mother, Louise Parrett Hedgepeth, her brother, Roy E. Hedgepeth, all of Georgetown, and her husband Robert W. Burt.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to all the staff of Copiah Living Center, who Joyce greatly loved, as well as the Copiah County Medical Center and Pax Hospice Services.
A funeral service will be held at Gallman Baptist Church on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Gallman Cemetery following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to: Gallman Baptist Church, PO Box 308, Gallman, MS 39077.
