Judith Rita Martin was born in the Bronx, NY, on August 16th, 1939. She attended Holy Family School in the Bronx and had a successful career as a credit manager. She had a love for knowledge and attended the College of New Rochelle, obtaining a bachelor's degree in psychology. Later in life, Judy dedicated 22 years to volunteering in the emergency room at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY. She considered this one of her most significant accomplishments.
If you were to ask Judy what her most outstanding achievement was, she would say being a grandmother. Upon the birth of her first grandchildren, twins Tyler and Amanda, she left her life in Boca Raton, FL, and immediately moved back to NY to be in their lives. She dedicated her life to being a supportive and loving grandparent. She was overjoyed to be a part of their upbringing and care, lovingly being called "Grandma Grandma," as the twins would often call her name one after the other.
Judy was an active member of her community and a woman of faith. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph Church in Bronxville and was deeply dedicated to God and her namesake, St. Jude. She said her daily prayers and had multiple books filled with the names of those she would pray for. She had the names of family members and strangers who helped her at the grocery store. Her kindness and love were unmatched, and she truly cared for every person she encountered. She developed close friendships with her neighbors in her building. Judy became particularly close with three special neighbors, Annie, Natalie, and Christina. They became so close that Judy dubbed them her "Forever Sisters" and truly considered them part of her family. She said she was glad she got to experience what it was like to have sisters, even as an only child. In the last few years of her life, Judy had become close to her granddaughter-in-law, Jessyca. They often talked for hours about anything and everything, becoming family and best friends.
Judy loved Frank Sinatra. Her favorite song was "My Way," highlighting her independence and strong will. She enjoyed ordering hamburgers and tea at the diner and was always up for a lunch date. She is remembered for her impeccable sense of style, always having the best outfits and shoes, as well as the warm, comforting presence that she had.
Judy is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Rita Donohue. She is survived by her loving grandchildren, Tyler, Amanda, Tommy, Kaitlyn, and Emily; her granddaughter-in-law, Jessyca; her children, Don and Rita; and her "Forever Sisters," Annie, Natalie, and Christina.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 2-6 pm at the Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Eastchester, NY and the Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 10:45 am at St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville.
