Julius Smith SR, 85, departed this life peacefully on June 24 2025 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Augusta Georgia on October 23, 1939 to Callie Smith Hines and Judd Hines who instilled courage and strength.
Julius Smith attended Langley High School in Augusta Georgia, where he graduated as an honor student. After High School Julius went on to join the U.S. Army which he served for 23 proud years. After retiring from the Army, Julius began working for Allaire Airport as an Electrical Wiring Engineer in Wall Township NJ. He also worked for Sears in Seaview Square Mall Neptune, NJ and after retiring from both jobs Julius decided to go back to work driving for First Student Bus Company, where he stayed for another 10 years. Julius enjoyed watching Football and baseball. He was a true Giants fan. He most of all loved fishing and cooking on his grill. Julius was very well known for his deep devotion and selfless love for his family. Family truly meant the world to him.
Julius was predeceased by his wife Shirley Smith to whom he was married for 30 loving years in 2012, also his daughter Gail Marie Latimore, son Thomas Andrew Lockhart Jr, his mother Callie Smith Hines, and father Judd Hines.
Julius is survived by his daughter Melvie Smith of Lakewood, NJ and son Julius Smith Jr and wife Kimberly Smith of Gainesville, FL. He was also survived by sons Joseph Lockhart of Manchester NJ, and Jerry Lockhart of Ocala FL, daughter Martha Ann Lockhart of Gainesville FL. His Grandchildren, Shamika Smith-Grier and Husband Kwan Grier of Neptune NJ, Teresa Smith-Young and Husband Allah Young of Barnegat NJ, Wendy Smith of Long Branch NJ, Jasmine Smith of Gainesville FL, Jaleesa Smith of Gainesville FL, Julius Smith lll of Gainesville FL, Isaiah Smith of Gainesville FL, Gail Smith Of Gainesville FL, Shanterrya Webb and husband Donald Webb of Gainesville FL, and Farrah Venezia of Howell NJ. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Julius also leaves 3 very dear friends who he held very close to his heart over 30 years, Garnett, Leroy, and Courtney who he loved to go fishing with, and a dear friend Loretta Wright who made his days full of joy and laughter.
