June R. Byrum, 90, of Buchanan, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 13, 2025, surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 212 West Front St., Buchanan, MI with Rev. Daniel Barz officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 am also at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Swem Chapel, Buchanan. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com.
June was born on June 21, 1935, to Edward and Mollie (Webber) Zelmer in Buchanan. She graduated from Buchanan High School, class of 1954.
June grew up on her family's farm and was a proud homemaker, dedicating her life to caring for her family. Later in life, she worked for several years at Food Specialties, Buchanan. A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Buchanan/Niles, she was confirmed in Buchanan and on October 20, 1956, married the love of her life, Ronald Byrum also at St. Paul Lutheran, Buchanan.
She found joy in caring for her flower garden and riding around on their golf cart. More than anything, she cherished her family, especially time spent with her grandchildren.
June is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ronald Byrum; son, Michael (Nancy) Byrum; daughter, Sandra (Craig) Best; grandchildren, Shannon Byrum, Molly Byrum, Katherine (Jermaine) Woods, Ronald DeFreez, Richard DeFreez, Carrissa Hawkins, Brandon Hawkins; sister, Barbara Norton; sister-in-law, Virginia Dempsey and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mollie Zelmer; daughter, Amelia (Scott) Hawkins; granddaughter, Kristina DeFreez and brother, Lavon Zelmer.
