Mr. Justin Wayne Sims, age 46, of Carthage, MS, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 2, 2025. He departed this life just as he would have wanted-surrounded by family and loved ones.
Justin was born on December 31, 1978, in Jackson, MS, the second child of Larry and Theresa Sims. He attended Leake Academy and later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Radiological Science from the University of Mississippi. On May 9, 2002, he graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Justin began his 25-year career in law enforcement in 2000 as a booking officer for the Leake County Sheriff's Office. Over the years, he served in various roles, including deputy sheriff, K-9 officer, shift supervisor, and chief investigator. In February 2020, he was appointed as an investigator for the Mississippi Attorney General's Office, where he served for five years. Most recently, Justin held the position of Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Carthage, MS, beginning on January 6, 2025.
Justin found joy in hunting trips to Hardin, IL, with friends and family-where the journey from home to camp was often an adventure all its own. He and his mother, Theresa, shared a love for antique markets and never passed one by without stopping to search for rare treasures, ranging from Star Wars memorabilia to Depression-era glassware. He also loved spending time fishing with his children, Julia and Jarod, creating memories and stories that will be cherished forever.
He is survived by his father, Larry Sims; his wife, Lana Sims; his children, Julia Brown (Wes) and Jarod Sims; his brothers, Jason Roberson and Jacob Sims; his sister, Jenna Holliman; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Sims.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 3:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, at Wilcox Funeral Home, 106 South Jordan Street, Carthage, MS. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 1471 McBeath Road, Carthage, MS. The service will be officiated by Greg Waggoner and John Sprayberry.
Pallbearers will be Clay McCombs, Lucas Brown, Dustan Sanders, Seth Waggoner, Austin King, and Robert Atkinson.
