Karen Susan Evans, 69, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2025. She was born on October 7th, 1955, a beloved daughter of the late Roy and Ettie McGregor. She was preceded in death by Mark Evans, her husband of 40 years.
Karen was a devoted wife, loving mother, and devout Catholic. In her early adulthood, she worked for Frontier and Wien Airlines, living in Colorado and Hawaii before returning to Anchorage, where she met her future husband. After several years as a homemaker, she attended Kenai Peninsula College, received her associate degree, and returned to work as an office administrator in elderly care, local government, and public schools.
Her family, friends, and faith community were at the heart of her life. She was deeply committed to her faith, becoming a lector and Eucharistic minister and taking several pilgrimages to Catholic holy sites with friends and family members. She was known for her kindness and generosity of spirit, and she regularly went out of her way to ease someone else’s pain or enrich their life.
Karen is survived by her three children, Nicholas Evans of Eagle River, Alaska, and Gregory Evans and Shannon Evans of Portland, Oregon; sisters Shirley Joerg of Portland, Oregon and Catherine Kelly of Anchorage, Alaska; best friend Karen Malcom-Smith of Anchorage, Alaska; and dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.
