Karen L. McEwen
January 5, 1942 – July 10, 2025
Karen L. McEwen passed away at home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous journey with dementia. During her final years, she was lovingly and tenderly cared for by her daughters, Jill and Cindee, who walked beside her through every stage of her illness and was lovingly supported by hospice in her final days. Her life was marked by unwavering faith, deep devotion to her family, and a legacy of selfless service and love.
Born on January 5, 1942, to Kenneth and Muriel Jenkins, Karen was a devoted daughter who grew into a deeply devoted woman. From a young age, she captured the attention and heart of her future husband, Dave McEwen, who began pursuing her when she was just 12 years old. After years of persistence and devotion, Dave finally won her over, and the two were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 29, 1961.
A lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Karen served in many callings throughout her life. Her testimony of the gospel was evident in the way she lived and served. One of the greatest joys of her life was serving as full-time missionaries with Dave in the Independence, Missouri mission, sharing their faith and love with others.
Karen had a deep love for documenting life and preserving memories. She found joy in taking photographs, scrapbooking, journaling, baking cookies and making fruit leather from the garden for her family and friends. She spent countless hours canning vegetables and fruits from Dave's garden. Her hands were rarely still, always working to serve those around her and especially caring for her family-her greatest treasure. She took immense pride in her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her posterity.
She has now reunited in heaven with her parents Kenneth and Muriel, her brother Tom, her sister Jill, and her beloved son, Daren.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Dave McEwen; her children: Jill (Larry), Cindee (the late Bryce), John, and Tim (Becky); and her daughter-in-law, Penny. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren: Tina (Joe), Christopher (Julia), Jacob, Austin, Alyssa (McKay), Steph, Ben, Tosha, Salena (Chris), Liz (Jed), Caity, Levi, Karen, Raine, and Evie; and her adored great-grandchildren: Hannah, Emilee, Hunter, Ilee, Alayna, Autumn, Charlie, and Stetsyn.
Karen also leaves behind her dear sisters: Shirley, Linda (the late Boyd), and Sally (Dave), who shared in the bonds of sisterhood, friendship, and faith throughout their lives.
Karen's gentle spirit, unwavering testimony, and legacy of love will continue to influence generations to come. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
We will be celebrating her life on July 18 from 4 PM to 8 PM at an open house at the home of Dave and Karen McEwen, located at 912 E 3rd St, Kidder, MO 64649.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests perennial plants that can be planted in a memory garden in her honor.
