Katherine Lindquist Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 7, 2025.
Kathy Katherine A. Lindquist (née Costoff) of Bellevue, WA passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, in Kirkland, Washington. Born in New Jersey, and growing up in New York, Kathy's life was marked by a deep passion for language, culture, and education that touched countless lives over the decades.

Kathy's academic journey began with her graduation from Columbia University, followed by a formative year abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris-an experience that ignited her lifelong love of French language and culture. She later moved to Seattle to pursue her teaching certificate through the University of Washington. While teaching French at Northwest College in Kirkland, she continued her studies and earned a Master of Arts in French. In her retirement, Kathy continued her zeal for life attending painting classes, meeting socially with friends, joining PEO. and travel.

A dedicated educator and proud francophile, Kathy devoted much of her professional life to advancing French language education. She was actively involved in numerous organizations supporting French teachers, including Alliance Française, the Washington Association of Teachers of French, and the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). Her leadership roles within these groups reflected both her commitment to excellence in teaching and her desire to build strong communities among educators.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kathy was known for her love of art and music-especially the piano and painting -and for the joy she found in sharing these passions with others. Our home was often filled with her music and conversation, reflecting her vibrant spirit and intellectual curiosity.

Above all else, Kathy cherished time spent with family. She is survived by her children Eric Lindquist, Karen Fossum, husband Randy Fossum, and Eva LaFollette, husband Jon LaFollette; grandchildren Meghan Mulka, Emily Mulka, husband Barrett Horn, Reid Larson, Gabe Fossum; and great-grandchild Piper. Her love for them was unwavering and brought her immense happiness throughout her life.

Kathy's legacy lives on through the many students she inspired, the colleagues she supported, and the family she held so dear. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited to Kathy's celebration of life at Cogir of Kirkland on July 13th, 2025 from 1:00 - 3:00. 6505 Lakeview Drive, Kirkland WA 98033
