Kathryn Milliner "Kitty" Bloxom, resident of Commonwealth Senior Living at the Eastern Shore, formerly of Melfa, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the age of 99. Known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unmatched talent in the kitchen, Kitty lived a long and beautiful life rooted in faith, love, and service to others.
Born March 24, 1926 at the family home in Accomac, VA, Kitty was one of nine children born to the late Oscar Brown Milliner and Lula Parks Milliner. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alton Cecil "Sass" Bloxom, Sr.; son, Daniel Keith "Danny" Bloxom, Sr. and his wife, Jackie Lou; and siblings, Arthur Fletcher Milliner, Jessie James Milliner Allen, Eloise Milliner Edwards, Elizabeth Milliner Burton, Ida Milliner Custis, Madlyn Milliner Coulbourne, William Oscar Milliner, and Herbert James Milliner.
As the matriarch of her family, Kitty led by example as a devoted Christian woman who loved the Lord, adored her family, and supported her community. She was a faithful member of Onancock Baptist Church, where she was a member for over six decades. Kitty's faith guided every aspect of her life, and she lived it out through kindness, compassion, and a servant's heart.
Though she worked for many years as a hairdresser, Kitty always considered her most cherished role to be that of wife, mother, and homemaker. She poured her heart into her family and her home, creating a welcoming space filled with laughter, love, and the smell of something sweet baking in the oven. An extraordinary baker, Kitty was famous for her cakes, pies, and sugar cookies, which she shared freely and often. For many years, she donated all the cakes for the Onancock Firemen's Carnival booth, a tradition the community came to rely on and look forward to. She was known to show up with a cake for any and every occasion-whether to comfort a grieving friend, lift the spirits of someone who was ill, or to sweeten up her Bridge club gatherings.
Kitty and Sass were among the founding members of the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club, where she was not only a familiar face but also an avid golfer and member of the bridge club. Her involvement in the club reflected her love for both sport and social connection, and she remained active in its community for decades.
Kitty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her giving nature, her strength, and the simple but profound ways she touched so many lives-often through a warm smile and a homemade cake. Her legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to both God and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She leaves to honor and celebrate her memory, her son, Alton Cecil "A.C." Bloxom, Jr. and his wife, Eileen, of Port Charlotte, FL; grandchildren, Daniel K. Bloxom, Jr. of Onley, VA, Kathryn "Kathy" Parks and her husband, Seth, of Cape Charles, VA, and Jonathan Bloxom of Chesapeake, VA; great-grandchildren, Ella, Tristan, Taylor, and Beaux; as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be held at Onancock Baptist Church on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 11:oo a.m., with Pastor Andy Cobb officiating. Interment will follow in the Edgehill Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
