The following is a description of his service in the Navy, in his own words: "I reported to the U.S.S. Mars, FAS-1, a combination supply and support ship that operated off the coast of Vietnam. I had a dispensary there with corpsmen, x-rays, etc., and five helicopters to receive injured military personnel prior to transfer to a large facility like the hospital in Da Nang." Ken received the Vietnam War Medal with Combat V as well as a Naval Commendation Medal, Rescue Operations, South China Sea and was discharged from service as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy in June
of 1972.
Ken started his private medical practice in Austin, Texas in 1976, and continued this practice until 1988. He then went on to become Chief of Staff of Shoal Creek Hospital, then Director of Medical Services for National Medical Management Services, and on to other leadership roles, continuing to open and direct medical practices around the United States. Ken was licensed to practice medicine in at least 19 states.
Ken was a board member of the humanitarian organization, Globe Aware, for two decades, travelling to The Bahamas and Thailand to support their mission.
He was an experienced sailor, dedicated reader and gardener. He was also an enthusiastic dominoes player and loved his domino playing friends. He traveled with his family to many countries including China, Italy and Costa Rica.
Ken was proud of his immediate and extended family and showed his pride by supporting the education of every member. He aspired to be a good friend to all.
