Kevin Michael McCoy, 65, of West Caldwell, NJ passed away unexpectedly at home on June 5, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 4-8 pm in the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068, shookfarmer.com. A Funeral Ceremony will be offered on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11 am in the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
Born in Everett, MA, he grew up in Groveland, MA where he attended Pentucket Regional High School and was the captain and running back of the football team. He made lifelong friends there.
Kevin received his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from The Catholic University of America graduating summa cum laude, where he met the love of his life and best friend, Dr. Loretto Brickfield. He completed his master's degree at the University of Delaware. After he completed his degree, he began working at American Cyanamid as a chemical engineer. Kevin and Loretto were married in 1985 and lived in Hoboken, NJ until they moved to West Caldwell, NJ in 1995.
For over 20 years, he worked in research and development at the former Wyeth Pharmaceutical Company in Pearl River, NY, where he managed three chemical development kilo laboratories and process development facilities and oversaw a team of 80 engineers and scientists. He then worked as the plant manager for Industrial Brush in Fairfield, NJ and retired in December 2023.
Kevin participated in an intramural hockey league and was an officer for the James Caldwell High School Lacrosse Club. The family sponsored the Caldwell Patriot Service Award to honor graduating seniors who join the military upon graduation from high school. In his spare time, he had a passion for freshwater fishing. He would travel all over the tristate area and to his favorite place to fish, Idaho.
Kevin lived a life full of great devotion to his family, enthusiasm for the outdoors and traveling, and unceasing optimism and joy for the simple things. He was very proud of his two sons who served in the military, and his daughter who is a researcher. He was proud and inspired by his wife, who is a neuropsychologist specialized in traumatic brain injuries and an avid runner.
Pre-deceased by his parents, Robert and Frances McCoy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Loretto Brickfield; three devoted children, Evelyn F. McCoy (Jeff), Henry McCoy, and William McCoy; loving brothers, Bobby McCoy, Fr. Daniel McCoy, Dr. Brian McCoy (Stephanie), and Dr. Michael McCoy (Maureen). Also surviving are his extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of friends.
We shall not be discouraged by Kevin's death, but even more encouraged by his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Project Big Wood, www.projectbigwood.org.

Still so unreal a year later. Thinking of you, Loretto, and the kids with love as you navigate this unspeakable grief.

Our kids played baseball together when they were small. Thus began the tradition of routine ribbing sessions between the Red Sox (McCoy) and the Yankee (Maxwell) fans. We laughed out loud!!
