Lakshmi Das, 78, passed away on June 29th, 2025 with her family by her side. Born in India she and her son followed her husband to America in 1983, and became a naturalized citizen in March 2, 1996. She originally lived in New Providence, New Jersey but she ultimately settled in Fanwood, New Jersey. She accomplished many new things in the United States, including learning to drive and working outside her home. She loved working at the New Providence Library and made many new friends and learned English.
Lakshmi worked as a Sales Manager at Sears Department Store in Watchung, NJ until she retired to take care of her beloved grandchildren. Her son Sunny Das was the greatest joy in her life and she was able to spend her entire life living near him and his family. She was able She loved nothing more than spending time with Summer and Hudson. She enjoyed watching Sesame Street and Little Einstein with her grandchildren and making the grand kids favorite mac and cheese and hamburgers. She was a hands-on grandma and loved to play with them, pick them up from daycare and school and go on vacation. She will forever be their beloved Thama.
She enjoyed traveling back to India to visit her family. She travelled with her husband with friends and loved to sight seeing different places. She loved getting dressed up for all of the holidays and special family occasions wearing the most beautiful Saris and jewelry. Everyone person she met became a friend. She was extremely generous and loved to make others happy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Asit Das; her son, Sunny; daughter in law Elaine Fabian; and grandchildren Summer and Hudson Das.
The cremation ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 3rd from 10-11:00 AM
