Lana Rebecca Wall Greuling, age 75, went to be with her Lord on April 8, 2025. Rebecca (Becky) was born in Smithfield, NC on February 3, 1950, to Shelton Wall and Lena Green Wall, both of Archer Lodge, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother, Shelton Clifton Wall, her husband, William (Bill) Greuling, and her oldest son, Michael Eric Heinrich Herbstreith. Rebecca is survived by her younger son, Jason Andrew Heinrich Herbstreith of Creedmoor, NC, her granddaughters Grace Alexis Herbstreith of Durham, NC, Caydence Renea Herbstreith of Creedmoor, and stepchildren Stephanie Greuling Pettie, Jeb and Robbie Greuling all of Athens, Alabama.
Rebecca grew up in the farming community of Archer Lodge near Clayton, NC. She attended Archer Lodge School and White Oak Baptist Church where she later became a member. Life revolved around church, school, farm work, and family. She had many cousins on both sides, and big family get-togethers happened every Sunday and Holiday.
Rebecca graduated from Clayton High School in June, 1969. In September of that year she began as a freshman at what was then Chowan College, pursuing her long-held dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated in May, 1972 with a 3-year Associate Degree in Nursing and then got her RN certification. After working at Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn, NC for a short time, she moved to Durham NC where she worked at Watts Hospital in the neonatal unit. In 1974 Rebecca was hired at Duke University Medical Center working in lead nursing positions. In the early 1980s she continued her nursing career in the Neurology Division of Duke Medical Center until her retirement in December of 2010.
Rebecca loved nursing. She had never wanted to pursue any other career. She also loved her family and enjoyed cooking big meals for Holidays and special times. For years she had a big vegetable garden and also bought produce from the Farmer's Market to freeze or can. She loved to sing, especially the old country songs, hymns, and gospel songs she had known and sung as a child.
After the death of her husband Bill Greuling and later, her son Eric, Rebecca moved to The Lodge in Wake Forest, NC June of 2018 where she had her own apartment. She made many new friends and enjoyed her life during her time at The Lodge. She passed peacefully in the presence of friends by her side.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, April 18th at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Dr. David Chambers officiating.
