Larry Joe Basham, 72, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Larry was born on October 24, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Coleman Basham and Sara Ruth Basham (Graham). Larry was raised by his late Uncle William and Aunt Sallie Mae Graham in New Albany, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his brother, James Basham.
Larry is survived by his loving family, wife Arlene Basham, daughter Erika Basham and step-son Jonathan Hill from previous marriage to the late Marcia Lester, niece Ameila Basham, sisters-in-laws Yvette Sarjeant and Shirley Sarjeant; a host of family, friends, and respected admirers of his art and writings.
Larry dearly loved his family. Larry was loving, kind, and respectful. He would help anyone in need and was a man of great integrity. He considered his church and work friends family as well.
Larry was a highly accomplished individual who grew up in New Albany, IN and graduated from New Albany High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Southeast (IUS) and more recently received his Certificate in Visual Communications from Ivy Tech. He served in the United States Navy with the Department of Veterans Affairs, as a journalist. He worked as a writer for the Associated Press and was a Television Newscaster on WLKY in Louisville, KY. He also held positions at retail stores Best Buy, H.H. Gregg, and Lowe’s.
Larry never lost the passion to learn and do more. Most recently, he returned to his love of photography and showcased his exhibits across Southern Indiana. Larry also published Journeyman Verses, a book of poetry that he called “Surrealistic Freeverse” and he intended it to be for “anyone and everyone who looks to be inspired in heart, soul, and spirit”.
Of all the accomplishments to remember about Larry, he was a devoted husband to Arlene and an amazing father to Erika, that loved and knew God.
Goodbye Larry, until we meet again. We love you.
