Larry "Shady" Bronemann, 85, died peacefully Thursday, June 26, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 Wednesday afternoon July 2, 2025 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Tuesday at the funeral home. Rev Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Ellie, 2 sons, Brian (Shelly), Bill, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his siblings, Jeanann Grimm, Judy Leggett, Jim (Katie) and Mike Bronemann, Penny (Dean) Erishman and a sister-in-law, Carole Bronemann. He was preceded by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers and a grandson Noah.
Larry Paul Bronemann was born May 17, 1940 at Monticello, Iowa to Donald and Theresa Ehlts, Bronemann. At the age of 10, Shady lived with Rudy and Mae Ambuel working on their farm until he was 16. He attended the Monticello Community Schools and he later served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1964 in Vietnam where he received many medals.
Shady married Ellie Chapman on May 27, 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a dedicated employee at Energy Manufacturing for 36 + years and Mrs. Pasker was his dear friend. He served as Commander of the VFW and a member of the Monticello Drill Team and called Bingo every Tuesday night for years and most of the ladies loved him. Shady loved going fishing with his buddies to Canada, Minnesota and South Dakota. He really loved going to the Casino, especially on the overnight trips with family and friends. Shady was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Elvis was his idol, he was a great impersonator, so he thought. Larry and his sons went on an honor flight to Washington D.C. in 2023. He took pride in mowing his lawn and his favorite pass time was sitting on the porch and now the patio.
The family would like to thank Above and Beyond Hospice and his sweet nurses Megan and Tammy. Shady fought a long battle with cancer and he did it his way.
