Larry Michael Clay, affectionately known as Larry to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, in Lanett, Alabama, at the venerable age of 77. Born on December 2, 1947, in the close-knit community of Langdale, Alabama, Larry's life was one marked by his love for family, his passion for the simple joys in life, and his enduring patriotism.
He is survived by a loving family that includes his daughter, Robin (Tony) Bozeman; his brother, James Ocie Clay, Jr.; his cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Alexis, Cale (Alexis), and Alan Bozeman; seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his later years; and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength.
Larry was predeceased by his revered mother, Juanita Blanks, whose memory he held dear throughout his life.
Larry had a lifelong love affair with the equine world. His affinity for horses was more than a hobby; it was a heartfelt connection to these majestic creatures that defined many of his happiest moments. Additionally, Larry was an ardent fan of western movies, embracing the courage, simplicity, and grandeur of the Old West, which resonated deeply with his personal ethos. One could often find him enraptured by the exploits of cowboys and the allure of the frontier, a bowl of popcorn steadily diminishing in his lap as he watched with childlike wonder.
His service in the U.S. Navy was a testament to Larry's bravery and dedication to his country. He served with distinction and embodied the virtues of a true sailor: loyalty, honor, and a robust spirit. This period of his life forged in him a courageous heart, one that would fearlessly chart the course of his life and inspire all who knew him.
In every sense of the word, Larry was handy. There was no task too big or too small for him to tackle, often with a resourcefulness and ingenuity that left others in awe. He had the uncanny ability to fix whatever was broken, mend what was torn, and soothe what was troubled. The moniker of being 'handy' extended beyond his skillful hands; it seeped into his ability to handle life's challenges with a composed confidence.
To say Larry was courageous would not capture the full breadth of his character. His was a quiet fortitude, the kind that doesn't roar but whispers steadfastly in the face of adversity. His strength was not just in the boldness of his youth while serving his country but also in the gentle fortitude with which he faced his twilight years.
Larry's life was a beautiful tapestry of the strong values he embodied and the warm memories he created. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to guide and comfort them, just as the memory of a storied western sunset brings warmth to the cool night that follows. Larry Michael Clay's story, though complete in its earthly chapter, will be recounted and cherished for generations to come.
