James "Larry" Golden went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 18, 2025, he was 76 years old. The services to remember his life will be handled by Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. There will be a visitation held at Raymond Road Baptist Church in Jackson, MS on Monday, July 21st from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Then again on Tuesday, July 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. to the 10:00 a.m. hour of service at Raymond Road Baptist Church. The Graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Magee, MS.
Larry is preceded in death by parents James and Hazel Tucker Golden, brothers Donald Paul and Eddie.
Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice Walker Golden. Children Chad & Karen Golden and Lori & Jason Miles. Grandchildren Jaycie, Lydia, and Alex Miles, Grace and Micah Golden. Brother Richard Golden, Brothers in law Donald Walker (Gail), Bobby Walker, Billy Walker, sisters in law Kathy Wright (Thad), Lisa Evans (Mike), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Larry proudly served 34 years in the Army National Guard and retired as Sargeant Major. He also retired from USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service after 47 years.
He had a deep love for the outdoors, often spending his time tending to his yard, garden, and beloved land, Mossy Ridge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was passionate about being a faithful steward of God’s Creation.
Larry was a faithful member of Raymond Road Baptist Church where he joyfully served in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School in the children’s department for 40 years.
He loved his God, his family, and his country.
