Larry Miller, Former Judge and Lifelong Learner, Dies at 87
Larry Miller, a former lawyer and judge from Chicago, passed away on May 20, 2025 at age 87. He was a man of deep intellect, wit, and warmth-a voracious reader, persuasive thinker, and devoted husband.
He and his beloved wife, Charlene Miller, shared a joyful marriage filled with adventure, travel, and joy over 42 years together.
Larry attended the University of Miami and Northwestern law school. He was an attorney at the National Labor Relations Board and spent the reminder of his career at social security administration as an administrative law judge. Larry also taught Shakespeare in adult education classes.
Larry's deep love of music, literature, philosophy and spirited conversation defined him. He was charming, curious, and loved exploring the world with his wife Charlene. He loved long walks, the theatre scene, Chicago-style pizza, and cheering on the White Sox.
Larry is survived by his wife Charlene; his sister Beth Slavitt; his nephew Andrew Slavitt (Lana); his niece Lesley Slavitt (Doug Knerr); and his grand-nephews, Caleb and Zachary Slavitt. All loved him dearly.
He lived with depth and left a legacy of wisdom and warmth to those who loved him.
Services will be private.
