Larry Dale Smith passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 23, 1959, in Redstone Arsenal, Alabama to Laurence and Marva Smith. Larry graduated from Grand Ledge High School and went on to join the Army. While in the Army he got to see a lot of places and always spoke fondly of his time in the service. After the Army Larry worked at Wohlert Corporation and was a proud union member. He loved the work he did, and some would say he got really good at working overtime and looking busy. Larry was most known for his love of hunting, fishing, going for rides, and spending Sundays at Church Service (Deer Camp). He was also a fan of drag racing and a lover of all things John Force. Larry spent time with people that he loved and making memories. He loved going up north with his family and spending time around the campfire playing cards. Larry was best known for his ability to play euchre and cribbage. He took his card playing serious and would let you know if you weren't playing Hoyle. Larry also loved to cook and whenever he had to bring food to a gathering it was always something different. He was an avid watcher of TV and loved to stay informed on the happenings in the world. Larry loved Perry Mason, MSNBC, NCIS, and MSU sports. He loved politics and always encouraged the younger generations to vote. Larry took great pride in always being one of the first people to the polls on voting day. He remained curious in life and loved to share his wisdom with the world and frequently talked about the way the world has changed in his lifetime. When Larry was asked what he was proud of in life he always said Serving in the Army and his children.
He is Survived by his children, Zachariah of Farmington Hills and Charity of Eaton Rapids; sister, Virginia (Kim) Burnham of Eagle; nieces and nephews, Jason (Andrea) Dewaters of Lansing, Sarah (Sal) of Mason, Carl Burnham of Webberville and several other people that loved him. Larry was proceeded in death by his parents Larry and Marva Smith; sister, Renee Dewaters and several other family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the Mills Funeral Home, Shelly-Odell Chapel in Eaton Rapids. To leave condolences for the family, visit our website www.millsfuneral.com.
