Laura Anne Hamilton (née Nielsen) left this world on July 16, 2025 in Greenville, North Carolina after a long and courageous battle with a variety of ailments. Born October 30, 1955 in Belfast, Maine, Laura was an independent, strong-willed, and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, wife, and friend.
Laura is predeceased by her parents, Harold Nielsen and Margaret Nielsen (née Snyder). She is survived by her children: Taphena Janelle (née Denison), Tyler Denison, Pëtra Eimiller (née Denison), Darby Hamilton, Sheridan Hamilton, and Phelan Hamilton; grandchildren: Michael Barkman, Lily Denison, and Elanor Denison; siblings: Carol Pourier (née Nielsen), Paul Nielsen, Christian Nielsen, William Nielsen, and Bruce Nielsen; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Laura worked hard and loved fiercely, and had a deep love for her children, grandchildren, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and horses. She was incredibly intelligent, opinionated, hard-working, and a talented chef - managing kitchens and restaurants for decades. She took particular pride in creating menus for different cultures, taking extra care to learn new recipes correctly and prepare them exceptionally.
Laura enjoyed rare burgers and steaks, long drives, walking her dog, being near the ocean, horseback riding when she could, and TV shows and movies with mustachioed men. In her later years she loved to read and enjoyed watching TV with her devoted sister, Carol.
Instead of flowers or planting a tree, please make a donation to a charity that supports horses or Bernese Mountain Dogs (or both if you are so inclined):

We will be hosting a celebration of life on the coast of Maine at a later date.
Rest easy, Laura. You are so loved and very missed.
