Laura "Laurie" Maus, 64, of McCandless, PA, was gifted eternal peace on September 7th, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Erie, PA, one of nine children, she is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Tim Maus, and their three children John (Ashley), Owen (Ruby) and Annie; her siblings Norm Jr. (Linda) Boetger, Tim Sr. (Kathy) Boetger, Barbara (Don) Chase, Cathy (David) Curtis, Julie Iacobucci, David (Heather) Boetger, Liz Carlson (Chris Szumigala), Tom (Kim) Boetger, along with many nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Lulu/Lala. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Rita Boetger.
In addition to being a dedicated wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Laura was a loving mother who delivered three beautiful children: John, Owen, and Annie. She taught her kids to be kind and helpful, with the confidence to never be afraid to speak their minds. Her care and attention guided them to flourish into the fullest expression of themselves, nurturing and loving them every step of the way. She was an especially proud mother-in-law to Ashley and Ruby, both of whom she treasured as her own. Laura also loved and cared for her pups, Baxter and then Archie, who were beloved members of the family. She spoiled her kids, and Christmas mornings were a joyful maze of wrapping paper.
Wherever Laura worked, she was passionate, doing her best and always seeking to help others. Throughout her career, she worked at the DQ in Erie (where she developed her sweet tooth), Villa Maria College in Erie, Baylor University, and GTE Sprint in Dallas. Later in life, she returned to Pittsburgh to work as an Emergency Medicine Recruiter at Daniel Stern and Associates, where she excelled. After her second child, Owen, was born, she took on her biggest and most rewarding role as a full-time mom. She nurtured and protected her kids and taught them the way. Later, she worked for Eye Physician and Surgeons in Wexford for 15 years, serving in several roles during which she was a mentor and friend to many.
Laura was revered and loved by family and the many friends she made throughout her life. For fun, Laura was one of the "Bunco Girls" and they rarely played the game but had more fun just being with girlfriends and carrying on! This close circle of friends supported Laura every step of the way throughout her illness and prepared delicious meals for the family while in hospice care. It was a beautiful testimony to witness the love they shared.
Laurie, as she was called by her family and friends in Erie, was a true athlete. She mastered riding a unicycle as a kid and was never afraid to play basketball against the boys. During high school, she was a first-team all-city guard for Strong Vincent High School and a member of the Homecoming Court. She later coached girls' basketball at Holy Trinity Grade School with her friend Jackie DiTullio, and their team was rumored to win a state championship.
After moving to Pittsburgh, she easily converted from a Browns fan to becoming a full-fledged member of Steeler Nation. Gameday often required ear protection for those watching with Laura, as she cheered loudly, regardless of the score or team record. She also loved watching her Pirates, Penguins, and the major tennis events with Tim. Regardless of the sport, it was a treat to hear her play-by-play commentary. Sundays this fall will be quiet without her enthusiasm and energy.
Laura loved her ice cream, cared for and nurtured her plants, and was amazing in the kitchen whipping up favorite meals for friends and family. She loved hosting and made everyone always feel welcomed and included, filling their stomachs, cups, and hearts along the way. She was an avid reader and taught herself to paint with watercolors. One of her greatest joys was spending time in the serenity of Ligonier Valley with Tim. This was their "happy place"! They loved playing cards, enjoyed happy hour sitting in the creek, and sharing their little slice of heaven with family and friends. Laura was invariably the life of the party! She loved to sing and dance. Just queue the music up and away she'd go demonstrating her uninhibited passion for life!
Faith in God guided Laura throughout her life. She was a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD for years at St. Sebastian Church. Laura felt richly blessed and extremely grateful for our friends, neighbors and family who supported us with delicious meals, prayers and kind gestures that help soften the pain we all witnessed in her final journey. A special thank you to the amazing team at Good Samaritan Hospice that went above and beyond in the care for Laura and were most helpful and attentive to our family.
Laura will be deeply missed and warmly remembered for the love and energy she added to our lives.
