He met his devoted wife, Carol, in high school, remaining together for the next 63 years and recently celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. During that time, they made the bold move to California after a cold snap of wind chills of 77 degrees below zero. They settled in Moraga in 1978 and have been there ever since. Missing Lake Michigan, they found water in 1979 in the up and coming boating community of Discovery Bay on the California Delta. There they have maintained a home and met another community of friends and boaters.
In 1994, Carol and Larry founded Scientific Symposiums International, a continuing medical education company for physicians and other medical practitioners. For more than three decades, their work has taken them to beautiful places, including Hawaii, Alaska, South Carolina, Georgia and San Diego. Along the way, they have built another community of educators and lifelong friends and colleagues. Larry took particular pride in building and running the business alongside Carol, creating a lasting legacy together. Larry and Carol were also members of the Lamorinda Wine Growers Association. They produced wine under the label Rheem Valley Vineyard, enjoying their wine with family and friends.
Larry was an enthusiastic tennis player at the Moraga Country Club and later joined Jerry's Guys, a group of equally enthusiastic players at the Country Club. An avid and life-long Green Bay Packer fan, Larry was a man, whose warmth and humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Above all he treasured time with his family, especially his grandsons, Ryan and Tyler. Larry spent countless hours coaching Moraga teams in soccer, basketball and softball and he never missed an opportunity to play endless tennis with his daughter, Maren. On Friday nights he and Carol could be found at the Discovery Yacht Club dancing and enjoying friends.
