Lee Everett Rummans, age 101, of Indianola, Iowa (formerly of Bondurant, Iowa, and Lowell, Arkansas), passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, July 7, 2025, at Vintage Hills Assisted Living Center in Indianola, where he most recently resided.
Lee was born on August 16, 1923, in Mitchellville, Iowa, the son of Fred and Bertha (Blake) Rummans. He grew up on a farm north of Bondurant with his brothers, Dale and Paul. Lee attended school in Bondurant and graduated from Bondurant Consolidated High School in May 1941. Following graduation, he farmed alongside his father and brothers near Bondurant.
After World War II, Lee began dating Elva, and the two were united in marriage on February 28, 1948, in Bondurant. They were blessed with three children: Bruce, Marcia, and Chris. Together, Lee and Elva rented and farmed three different properties, raising their children in a hardworking and loving home. In 1966, the family moved to Des Moines, where Lee worked for Massey Ferguson. Throughout their life together, Lee and Elva shared a love of gardening and enjoyed the music Elva played on the piano and, later, the organ.
In retirement, Lee and Elva settled in Lowell, Arkansas. Lee especially enjoyed attending weekly auctions, where he found treasures to bring home and restore. Many of these restored items ended up in the toolboxes or yards of his children and grandchildren.
Lee treasured time with his family. Easter gatherings in Arkansas became a beloved tradition. He and his children would hide dozens of candy-filled eggs for the grandchildren to find-ensuring every basket was filled to the brim.
After 71 years of marriage, Lee lost his beloved wife, Elva, who passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dale and Paul.
Lee is lovingly remembered by his three children: Bruce (Linda) Rummans of Sadler, Texas; Marcia (Ken) Schlomer of Norwalk, Iowa; and Chris Rummans of Jesup, Iowa; as well as nine grandchildren: Sheryl (Michael) Giles, Brian (Stephanie) Rummans, Kyle (Jessica) Rummans, Kevin (Jen) Schlomer, Dianne (Josh) Simpson, Tyler Rummans, Kayla (Alex) Weber, Jeremiah (Becky) Ludemann, and Jonathan Ludemann. He is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 19, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM at Iles Norwalk Chapel in Norwalk, Iowa. Burial will take place at Franklin Township Cemetery near Bondurant.
