Leonard Vincent Smith Jr., 77, of Live Oak, FL, passed away on July 17, 2025. Mr. Vince was born on May 30, 1948, to the late Leonard Vincent Smith Sr. and Marguerite Smith. Vince dedicated his life to serving others. A committed social worker for the Florida Department of Children and Family Services, he worked tirelessly for 37 years to support individuals and families facing mental health challenges. His passion for advocacy and deep compassion for those in need were evident in everything he did. Vince was instrumental in the drafting of Florida's Baker Act, a lasting testament to his dedication to mental health reform and the well-being of vulnerable populations. A pillar in his community, Vince was known for his generosity, humility, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Whether through professional service or personal acts of kindness, he made a profound impact on countless lives. Vince is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Virginia Smith; his stepson, Jason Gatlin (Kelly); two cherished grandchildren, Holly and Kaylee and his cousins, William "Alan" Wright (Cas) and Sheri Smith Crane. He will be remembered for his warmth, his wisdom, and the enduring legacy of hope and healing he leaves behind. Vince's life will be celebrated at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 5858 River Rd, Live Oak, FL, on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 10:00am. All are welcome to share this with his family as his family. Vince spent his life advocating for the vulnerable and protecting the innocent. What a legacy. I am glad that I got to know him. Virginia and family, we pray for the Lords loving arms to comfort you in your sorrow.

So glad I got to know Vince through American Patriots. He was passionate about what we did and how we did our business. We had several deep discussions and I saw his passion for people. My heart goes out to you, Virginia, and your family. May God's peace cover your family at this time of grief.
