Deacon Lewis Edward Hurt, 79, of Keysville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2025. He was born on December 16, 1945, in Lunenburg County, VA, the son of the late Billy Hurt and Ethyl Allie Dean Hurt (Johns). He was educated in the Lunenburg County public schools. Lewis found the love of his life in Irene Elizabeth Crawley. The couple was married on December 13, 1969, and shared 55 wonderful years filled with love, faith, and family. From this union, three children were born: Calvin, Dexter, and Michael Hurt. Lewis was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and faithful servant of God who touched many lives through his steady faith and dedication to his community. Lewis proudly served his country in the United States Navy starting in December 1963 and continued his military service in both the Navy Reserve and the Army Reserve, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to duty and service. Professionally, Lewis was a dedicated worker who spent many years at Die Molding Plastic Inc. as a Die Setter for 22 years and later worked at Reiss Inc. as a Machinist for 24 years, where his skill and work ethic were highly respected. Lewis's passion was his faith and service to Macedonia Baptist Church, where he was a faithful Deacon for over 40 years. His ministry went well beyond the pulpit, as he dedicated himself to Christian education, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for many years. His love for the music ministry showed in his roles as Church Musician and member of the Board of Trustees. Lewis also shared his musical talents as a musician for the adult choir at New Prospect Baptist Church. In 1981, he accepted Christ as his Savior and Lord, a decision that influenced every part of his life afterward. Lewis is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Irene Hurt; his children, Dexter and Michael Hurt; his daughters-in-law, Gwendolyn and Erin Hurt; and his grandchildren, Aiden, Logan, Deija, Jakson, and Saylor; his sister, Loretha Hardy (Hurt); and his nieces, nephews, many cousins, and faithful friends. His legacy of faith, service, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William Hurt Sr., and his son, Calvin Hurt. Lewis Edward Hurt will be remembered as a Christian man who lived according to his beliefs, a devoted family man, and a pillar of his community. His humor, quick wit, gentle nature, generous heart, and strong dedication to helping others will be profoundly missed but always remembered.
