Louis Julius "Doc" Perretta
October 18, 1957 – July 8, 2025
Louis Julius Perretta, lovingly known as "Doc," passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 67. Born on October 18, 1957, in Staten Island, New York, Louis lived a life defined by curiosity, compassion, and an unwavering sense of humor.
Louis was married twice - first to Brenda Denslow, the mother of his children, who preceded him in death, and later to Karen Schneider, who also passed before him.
A devoted father, brother, and physician, Louis is survived by his children, Nathaniel Perretta and Julia Perretta, and his sister, Anne Albicocco.
He dedicated his life to healing others, practicing emergency and urgent care medicine, and volunteering on medical missions around the world. He also served for many years as Medical Director for Clackamas EMT and Fire, supporting the health and readiness of first responders.
Outside of his profession, Louis led a life full of energy, adventure, and heart. He was an avid runner, mountain climber, scuba diver, and rower. He loved to travel, read, do pilates, and spend time with his animals-especially at the beach in Hawaii, one of his favorite places.
Louis was known for his sharp wit, generous spirit, and deep appreciation for life's eccentricities. A lifelong fan of The Grateful Dead, he embraced the band's free-spirited ethos, often quoting lyrics and bringing that same laid-back joy into everyday moments. He also loved irreverent humor and was a devoted fan of John Waters and Pink Flamingos, always finding ways to make others laugh-even in the toughest situations. In his later years, he remained a kind and uplifting presence to residents and staff in the memory care community where he lived.
A viewing will be held at Holman's Funeral Services on Saturday, July 12 at 12:30pm. A memorial celebration of Louis's life will be scheduled later this year.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Louis's memory to the Lake Oswego Transitional Shelter Ministry, an organization supporting individuals and families in crisis-reflecting his lifelong commitment to care and community.

ROBERT MAROTTI

Lou and I shared a love of live music, he would so keen on the Grateful Dead that I felt I had to see them live. I saw them at Radio City Music hall. It was an experience. Lots of bare footed flower toting followers all around 49 th st in Manhattan. I am now understand the phenomenon.
He also turned me on to Bella Fleck and the fleck tones of which I became a fan. I introduced him to the Clash during their residency at Bonds.

Life lesson learned from David Bromberg's retirement. We were upset that David Bromberg was playing his last concert. We had to go. We went and had fun. The lesson is that he started touring again within two years, don t believe the hype.

I always had a good time with Lou
