Louise Jaap Spiller
January 19, 1937-October 17, 2025
Louise Jaap Spiller, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and dear friend to many, passed away on October 17, 2025. She was born on January 19, 1937, in Jackson, Mississippi to Charles Oliver Jaap III and Nancy Virginia Childers.
Louise was the third of seven children and grew up in a lively and loving household in Mississippi with her siblings Charlie, Jimmy, Johnny, Billy, Jerry, and Jeanne. The Family relocated to Florida while their father fought in World War II. She moved her senior year and graduated from Ashland Mississippi High School before she moved to Houston, Texas to live with her Aunt Margaret.
Shortly after moving to Houston, Louise began working at MD Anderson, where she held several roles that she fondly remembered throughout her life. She started in the mailroom, a position she loved because it allowed her to meet doctors from all over the world. She later worked in the radiology department, filing patient records and helping ensure scans were completed properly for young children. She also operated the switchboard and worked in the "tube room" delivering items throughout the hospital.
It was through her Aunt Margaret, where Louise met the love of her life, Tom Vincent Spiller. Their first date was at a wrestling match where Tom was working security. Sitting three rows from the front, Louise fainted when one of the wrestlers appeared to charge toward her - an encounter that became a cherished family story for decades. Louise said with Tom she did a lot of things she had never done before.
Tom proposed to Louise in December 1955 outside a rest stop in Hempstead, Texas. She converted to Catholicism, and on May 5, 1956, they were married in a small ceremony. She wore a simple white linen dress with navy blue shoes and a matching scarf.
Louise and Tom moved to Austin in 1961, where Louise worked in the Treasurer's Office and in 1963, they settled in Buda, Texas, where they built their home and raised their family. Buda remained her home for the rest of her life. Louise and Tom shared over 37 years of marriage before Tom's passing in December 1993.
Louise played a unique role in the early days of Buda's development. At one point, she was the only salaried employee for the City of Buda, serving as the city secretary. She took great pride in serving her community in this way. She spent many years working alongside Tom and son, Richard, as the secretary and bookkeeper for their family business, Spiller Pest Control. Her hard work, attention to detail, and dedication played a vital role in the success of the company and reflected the same steadfast commitment she brought to every part of her life.
Faith was central to Louise's life. For over 35 years Louise was a proud, active member of St. Anthony Altar Society (LAS) in Kyle and the Austin Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. At different times she held office as President and Secretary in LAS and Rural Life Chair in our Deanery.
She engaged in all activities with joy and enthusiasm, be it cleaning the Church, laundering Altar linens or in the kitchen for a baking session. Louise was always a willing cheerful participant. Louise, Maxine and Trinky (her cohorts) were known as the Trinity at LAS! She will be greatly missed by fellow members and remembered for her beautiful smile and caring demeanor.
Louise and Tom believed deeply in taking care of others. They often opened their home to people in need, providing a place to stay and helping them get on their feet. Their generosity and quiet acts of service left a lasting impact on many lives.
Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tom; sons, Lee and Tommy; parents, Charles and Virginia and brothers, Charlie, Jimmy, and Billy.

Louise's life was a shining example of quiet strength, deep faith, and unconditional love. She poured herself into her family, her church, and her community, leaving behind a legacy that cannot be measured in words alone. Her laughter filled rooms, her kindness lifted others, and her unwavering support was a steady presence through every season of life.
To her family, she was the heart of their story - a keeper of traditions, a source of wisdom, and a constant light. To her friends and community, she was a helping hand, a warm smile, and a woman who gave without hesitation.
Though her absence will be felt deeply, the love she shared will continue to ripple through generations. Her spirit will live on the lives she shaped, the values she instilled, and the memories her family will cherish forever.
