Lura Louise Carr, 82 of Oskaloosa, IA, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa, IA.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, July 10 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 3002 N. Court St., Ottumwa, IA. Lura's son, Greg Carr will officiate.
Lura was born on Sept. 20, 1943, the daughter of Richard and Merle Hem Gibson at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ottumwa, IA. Lura attended the Ottumwa schools, later receiving her GED diploma. On Dec. 23, 1960, Lura married Ronald Alvin Carr and had 2 children, Gregory Scott and Joanna Marie. In her younger years, Lura was active in her home church, enjoyed singing, cooking and making beautiful flower arrangements. She also loved quilting and took great pride in making quilts for her great grandchildren and other new babies in the church.
Lura is survived by her son, Rev. Gregory Carr and his wife Debbie of Bismarck, ND., 4 grandchildren: Megan (Joseph) Leach; Chantelle (Matt) Zika; Danielle (AJ) Merz, all of
Bismarck, ND; Kyle Butler of Ottumwa, IA; 12 great grand-children, one sister, Sherrill Helm of Oskaloosa, IA; one sister in law, Diana Carr of Ottumwa, IA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lura was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, her daughter Joanna Butler, 2
grandchildren, Brandon and Bradley Butler, 1 great grandchild, Zion Leach and 2 brother in laws, Mike Carr and Fred Helm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used to pay for funeral expenses and to give to her favorite charity. All memorials, send to Bates Funeral Chapel, Post Office Box 207, Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577.
