Margaret Brizendine, 99, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday June 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 7, 1926, in Cole County, Missouri, Margaret was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ollie (Peeper) Harris. She was educated in Centertown and Marion Schools and went on to earn her nursing degree from General Hospital in Kansas City in 1951.
On August 25, 1944, Margaret married the love of her life, Glenn A. Brizendine, in Jefferson City. They shared 53 wonderful years together until his passing on March 27, 1998.
Margaret dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked as a nurse for 20 years, first at General Hospital in Kansas City for 5 years, and then at Still Hospital in Jefferson City for 15 years. After her nursing career, she served as a clerk at the Missouri Department of Revenue License Bureau, where she retired after 20 years of devoted service.
She was long-time member of Memorial Baptist Church (68 years) and a proud member of the Eastern Star. She had a love for gardening, canning, attending swap meets, camping, and traveling with Glenn. She was known for her independence and continued to drive her beloved 1984 3/4 Ton Chevrolet truck until 2020.
Margaret was generous with her time and love, especially with her family. She babysat her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with joy and often joked that while she loved her grandchildren dearly, she loved her great-grandchildren even more.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Margaret's honor to the Jefferson City Missouri Police Foundation.
She is survived by her son, Sammy L. Brizendine (Mary) of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Darla Struemph (Eric), Dana Foster (Richard), and David Brizendine; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa Struemph, Mayce Foster, Alexa Struemph, Allie Brizendine, and Hollie Brizendine; bonus great-granddaughter, Darnae Johnson; special friend, Patty Champlain, along with host of extended family and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three children, Kathy Brizendine, Daniel Brizendine, and David Brizendine.
The family of Margaret would like to extend a special thanks to nurse Ashlyn.
A private mausoleum service will be held.
Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St.; Jefferson City, MO 65109. (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com
