Margaret "Margie" Sue Dawson (née Swetz)
January 23, 1941 – July 3, 2025
Zeigler, Illinois
Margaret "Margie" Sue Dawson, 84, of Zeigler, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on July 3, 2025.
She was born on January 23, 1941, in Zeigler to Andrew and Margaret Swetz. On September 12, 1964, she married Jack Dawson, and the two shared more than 60 years together in the community they called home, raising their daughter Anne as part of the life they built together. Margie loved being Anne's mom-it was easily one of the best parts of her life.
Margie was a longtime member of Zeigler Christian Church. She loved being outside-especially tending to her flower gardens-and could often be found working a crossword puzzle or watching a Hallmark movie. She found joy in everyday things and made a quiet but lasting impact on the people around her.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Dawson of Zeigler; her daughter, Anne Dawson of Jacksonville, Florida (Tenesha); and three grandchildren: Jackeline Burgess, Christopher Dawson-Shears, and Gregory Dawson-Shears, all of Jacksonville, Florida. She is also lovingly remembered by close family friends, including the Pontious and Flood families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Margaret Swetz of Zeigler; her sister, Marilyn Williamson of Franklin, Kentucky; her grandparents, Steven and Mary Sennay of Zeigler; and many beloved extended family members, including aunts, uncles, and cousins who were dear to her throughout the years.
A special thanks to the Hospice of Southern Illinois team-Mandy, Amy, Beth, and Jessica-who helped keep her comfortable and made her feel truly loved and cared for in her final days.
Funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Zeigler Christian Church with Donnie Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Zeigler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zeigler Christian Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the church the day of the service.
Her life was quiet but full-rooted in faith, devoted to her family, and filled with an appreciation for the little things. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and quiet strength that will be carried on by those who knew her
Vantrease-Pyle Funeral Home in Zeigler is entrusted with the arrangements.
