Margaret Jean Ferrer
July 14, 1925 – October 16, 2025
Margaret "Jean" Ferrer, 100, of Dover, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, at her home located at Langdon Place of Dover.
Born in Springfield, Missouri, on July 14, 1925, Margaret was the daughter of Richard Earl James and Stella Mary Jane James (née Casebeer). She grew up in Springfield with her sister Mary and brothers Richard and David.
In 1942, Jean moved with her family to Galveston, Texas, where her father, an officer in the Missouri National Guard, was stationed during World War II. It was there that she met a young Army officer, Alfred "Al" Ferrer Jr. The two married soon after, beginning a 73-year partnership filled with devotion and adventure.
As a military wife, Jean lived across the country and abroad - from Pennsylvania and Oklahoma to Japan and Germany - raising her family and creating a warm home wherever life took them. She and Al eventually settled in Lawton, Oklahoma, where Al retired from the U.S. Army and worked as a civilian for the Department of the Army at Fort Sill.
Jean was an accomplished bridge player, a passionate quilter, an avid University of Oklahoma football fan, and an adventurous world traveler who thought nothing of driving cross-country with friends to visit family. In 1977, she and Al relocated to Frankfurt, Germany, where Al had taken a position with the Department of Defense. During their stay in Germany, they would travel across Europe in Jean's big Buick sedan. After nine years in Germany, Al once again retired, and they returned to the states made their home in Reston, Virginia near their son James and their family.
After many wonderful years in Reston, Virginia, In 2018, Jean and Al moved to Dover to be near their daughter and extended family. Even after Al's passing in 2020, Jean remained spirited, independent, and full of life - a fixture in the Langdon Place dining room, always ready with a sharp wit, a smile, and a laugh.
Jean is survived by her children Marguerite Ferrer of Dover, NH; Alfred Ferrer III of New York, NY; and Geoffrey Ferrer of Milburn, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tommy, Rebecca, Andrew, Kristina, Maria, Jamie, Katie, Jacqui, Billy, Molly, Geof Jr., and Liam; nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alfred "Al" Ferrer Jr.; her daughter Rebecca; her sons Edward and James; and her siblings Mary, Richard, and David.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held in Dover, NH at Langdon Place of Dover, on October 26th from 2 to 4 pm. The date and time of a memorial service at her burial place in Springfield, Missouri will be announced at a later date.
