Margaret "Margie" Elaine Luebbert, 81, Jefferson City, died Friday, March 28, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on May 24, 1943, the third of seven children to Henry and Angeline (Schenewerk) Veltrop Sr. at the family home outside of Mexico, MO. She was united in marriage to Levoy Luebbert on August 24, 1973, in Westphalia MO.
Left to survive Margie are her four daughters, Sandy Becherer, Marilyn and Terry Hogan, Trudy and Ryan Parkhurst, and Henrietta and Joe Woehr. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, Chad Dent (Tiffany), Sabrina Dent, Zac Hogan (Kelsey), Courtney Kremer (Zach,) Miranda Hogan (Colton), Angel Woehr, Ava Gregory, Cameron Woehr, Austin Woehr, and Ryder Parkhurst and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Henry and Margaret Veltrop, Tom and Helen Veltrop, Jim and Joyce Veltrop, Gary and Charlene Veltrop, and Cathy and Gary Scribner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levoy on February 11, 2003, her parents Henry Sr. and Angeline Veltrop, her father and mother-in-law Wilfred and Esther Luebbert, granddaughter Samantha Hogan, and sister Betty Schrimpf.
Margie attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Westphalia. She worked at many manufacturing plants in Missouri and Illinois during the 1960's and early 1970's. She and her husband owned and operated Wilbers Texaco Station in Westphalia from April 1976 to June 1980. She then stayed at home with her children until she decided to earn her GED and returned to the workforce. She worked for the State of Missouri and then went to work at Scholastic Inc where she retired from in 2001. She worked part time, first at Leroy's gas station in Westphalia and then with health care services in the Eldon area.
She also volunteered for many organizations over the years; Young Women of America, room mother for her daughters' schools, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary where she served as President, Vice President, and Secretary, and the Gabby Ladies group of Liberty Road Baptist Church. Her daughter, Trudy, unknowingly started Margie on her path of becoming the "Hat Lady" when Trudy purchased Margie's first hat while on vacation in the mid 90's. That started her on her path of owning and wearing hats of all styles for the rest of her days. She had a collection that at one time numbered over 600. Margie had a passion to help anyone and anything she encountered. She took in many strays over the years, animals and human. She never knew a stranger and was always ready to help.
Friends will be received from 4-7 PM, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Hilke-Millard Funeral Home in Westphalia. Services will be held at Liberty Road Baptist Church, Taos, on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery in Westphalia.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
