It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Maria Castrovillari DeBernardo- dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend announce her passing on July 14, 2025 at the age of 81.
Maria was born on June 30, 1944, to Giovanni and Anna (Gradilona) Castrovillari, in Acri, Italy. She was one of seven children.
She is survived by her children Carmelina and husband Edward Misorek and her son Gino and his wife Amanda DeBernardo. She adored her five grandchildren, Julia, Jessica, Nicolas, Gino, Luca and her great grandson Oliver Rico.
She is also survived by her dear brother Pietro and beloved sister-in-law Filomena Castrovillari and many nieces and nephews.
Maria is predeceased by her husband Luigi DeBernardo, her parents, her young daughter Juliette DeBernardo, her brothers Silvio, Giuseppe, Antonio and sisters Romilda and Lina.
Maria was a talented seamless, avid crocheter/knitter who enjoyed making slippers for family and friends. She was loved by so many and will be missed dearly.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave, Stamford CT on Tuesday July 22, 2025, at 10:30 am. Internment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Maria's memory.
