Maria Hammack Obituary

Maria Destifano Hammack, of Hayes, passed peacefully from this life and into the arms of her beloved husband, Charles D. Hammack, who awaited her in heaven. Born in the sun-warmed city of Catania, Sicily in 1938, Maria carried with her a radiant joy for life, a deep love for family, and a soulful voice that filled every room with song.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Ersilia "Susie" Bazzani and her husband Phillip, and her cherished grandchildren: Phillip Bazzani and his wife Jane, and Christina DeVivero and her husband Michael. Her legacy lives on in her five treasured great-grandchildren: Addison, Alessandra, Harper, Katherine, and Charlotte.
Maria found her greatest joy in spending time and singing Sicilian songs with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought her boundless happiness. She was a dear friend to many and a faithful member of Abingdon Episcopal Church, where her warmth and kindness touched countless hearts.
A memorial service celebrating Maria's life will be held at Abingdon Episcopal Church on July 7, 2025 at 4:00 PM. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Charles at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date-a testament to their enduring love and shared devotion. Maria's life was a beautiful melody of faith, family, and love. She will be missed dearly and remembered always.
