Mrs. Elder Marie Eden Scoggins, age 97, of Rome, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at her residence.
Mrs. Scoggins was born in Talladega, Alabama on November 3, 1927, daughter of the late Thomas Earl Eden and the late Pairlee King Eden. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert Marion Scoggins; by two sisters, Billie Whorton and Margaret Reynolds, and by two brothers, James E. "Jimmy" Eden and Donald Eden. She grew up in Eden Valley with all her cousins and other relatives around and made many special memories there. Mrs. Scoggins was a graduate of Rome Girls High School. Prior to retirement, she worked for Sears Roebuck and Company as a teletype operator/merchandise controller. She and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world. At the time of her death, Mrs. Scoggins was the oldest living member of Lindale First Baptist Church where she had been active in the WMU and several other activities of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. June Scoggins and Mrs. Janice Scoggins Cox (Steve); two grandchildren, Halei Cox Scuvotti (Don) and Jarrad Cox; three great grandchildren, Steven Cox (Hayley), Nicole Paynter, and Carmen Scuvotti; a sister-in-law, Lynda Eden; two brothers-in-law, Dr. James Scoggins and Arthur Reynolds; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with her pastor, Rev. Eric Whelchel, officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 12:30pm until 1:45pm.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday at 1:30pm and include Jarrad Cox, Steven Cox, Mike Gribble, Vic Reynolds, Don Scuvotti, and Tim Whorton.
