Marie Thomas Barzon Obituary

Marie Thomas Barzon was born on December 26, 1946, and departed this earth on July 2nd at the age of 78. Marie was a vivacious, genteel southern lady. She always had a kind word, always had a smile, and was interested in everything going on. She loved to talk politics and spend time with her friends. She was a graduate of McDonogh #35 high school, Dillard University, and the University of New Orleans where she received her Master's Degree in Education. She read widely, had a large home library, and for a time in her early career worked at the main branch of the New Orleans Public Library where she would eventually meet her husband. She loved God, her family, friends, music, art, acting, and her job as a teacher in the New Orleans Public School system. Marie loved television and theater, and for many years was an active member of the Screen Actors Guild. She was always the best friend to anyone who needed a friend. She was a kind person. She was also very smart, keenly alert and intelligent, and had an unquenchable joy. Marie will be missed by many.
Marie was the beloved wife of the late Charles Barzon, Jr., daughter of the late Kelsee Thomas and Mildred Ford Thomas, mother of Charles Anthony Barzon (Kyoko) and Carlton Barzon (Dorie), sister of Carolyn Thomas, Nancy Thomas-Pierre, and Linda Thomas York. She is survived by three grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans where she taught at Mc Donough #39 Elementary for over 34 years.
Relatives and friends of the family, coworkers, members of First Baptist Church New Orleans, Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. are invited to a funeral service at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave, New Orleans on Saturday, July 11, 2025 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm.
